Meet the Staff
Jamie Barthel
Jamie Barthel grew up on the rinks of Central Minnesota and has been coaching youth hockey since 2015. He has two players in hockey and spends the majority of his “free” time at the rink.
Jamie focuses on the Mite / 8U level of players, teaching them the basic skills to become better skaters. He enjoys working with this younger audience and helping them to build their confidence on the ice. He is always excited to meet our new mite players. Jamie holds a level 4 USA hockey coaching certification.
Shawn Pietsch
Shawn Pietsch grew up in Anoka and played youth and high school hockey for Anoka. He has been coaching hockey since 2006 and has been involved in all levels, from mites to high school. He has three kids involved in the youth program at Andover and helps coach those teams as well.
Shawn carries a level 4 USA hockey coaching certificate and serves on the association board as the coaching director. He enjoys being involved with the kids and seeing the yearly improvement.
Patrick Popehn
Patrick Popehn grew up in the Andover area and played youth hockey for Anoka. He has been actively coaching youth hockey since 2011 at various levels. Patrick has two kids playing hockey and is actively involved in the Andover Youth Hockey Association as a coach and Board Member, where he serves as the Equipment Director.
Patrick holds a Level 4 coaching certification with USA Hockey and has spent numerous hours building a more robust hockey program alongside many other great volunteers. He looks forward to meeting and working with current and new Flex Hockey players.
